STATEMENT

Cecilie’s thoughtful build-up of brush strokes, layers and shapes, juxtaposes scribbled-out, obliterated areas.  This mirrors the tension of life, creation, modification, destruction and rebirth.

Front of mind in creating my artworks is the interconnectedness of women and their support of each other in their tradition of quilt-making. I incorporate this practice in my use of color, shape and line.

In our computer age, none of this can be replaced by automation or AI.  The power of women, their struggle to be seen and heard and their deep love for their families is my motivation.

My work is primarily acrylic on canvas and board with some mixed media.  I prefer to work in large format because I can express the vastness of these concepts more effectively.
